Applications to Postdoctoral Programs

Universidad UTE, through the Postdoctoral Department of the General Directorate of Graduate Studies, invites professionals holding a Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) to participate in the selection process for admission to the 2026-2027 postdoctoral programs, in accordance with the Universidad UTE Guidelines for the Management of Postdoctoral Programs and current institutional planning.

2. Who can apply?
The call is intended for professionals holding a Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) with an academic and scientific track record related to the research lines of the program to which they are applying.
Applicants must demonstrate that they have obtained a Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) by submitting the corresponding degree certificate. Exceptionally, when the degree has not yet been issued, an official certification or letter confirming approval of the doctoral defense may be submitted.
Applicants must demonstrate research experience and scientific production in their area of specialization through publication links using the established format.
Applicants must submit their curriculum vitae using the format applied to funding applications, together with two academic reference letters from researchers or academics who have had direct involvement in research activities carried out by the applicant during the last three years.
Applicants must submit at least one funding proposal using the funding identification form, including the institution, dates, and applicable guidelines.
Applicants must submit a motivation letter addressed to the Director of the Postdoctoral Department.
National identity card for national candidates and a copy of a valid passport for international candidates.
3. Research proposal
Postdoctoral research provides an opportunity to deepen an existing line of work, explore new questions, and generate knowledge from an independent perspective. The research proposal must identify the research line the researcher will develop during the postdoctoral period and the expected contribution to the field of knowledge, in alignment with Universidad UTE’s research lines.

4. Postdoctoral researcher responsibilities
Participation in a postdoctoral program entails specific commitments to the development of research and to Universidad UTE, in accordance with the approved research plan.
- Scientific production: publish at least four (4) scientific articles in journals indexed in Scopus or Web of Science, corresponding to Q1 or Q2 quartiles. When justified by the nature of the research, other intellectual property products, such as patents, may also be considered.
- Funding Management and Applications: identify and apply for national or international funding and cooperation opportunities for research development, in coordination with the corresponding institutional units.
- Development of New Researchers: co-supervise at least one master’s thesis together with a Universidad UTE faculty member, review progress and provide feedback, and provide academic and scientific support to graduate students.
- Academic and Scientific Activities: participate, when applicable, in academic activities related to graduate programs, conduct specialized seminars, participate in research-related academic support activities, and contribute to scientific dissemination, knowledge transfer, or community engagement.
- Residence in Ecuador: remain in Ecuador for 65% of the contractual period. The remaining 35% may be spent outside the country for academic, scientific, or cooperation activities related to the program, subject to prior institutional authorization.
5. How will the selection process be conducted?

Eligibility Review Verification of compliance with the requirements and submitted documentation.

Academic Evaluation The evaluation will have a maximum of 50 points: scientific track record and research output, 20 points; research proposal, 20 points; interview, 10 points.

Interview The interview will last between 35 and 45 minutes and may be conducted in person or virtually, in Spanish or English.

Selection Committee Recommendation The Selection Committee will issue the corresponding report with its recommendation regarding the selected candidates.

Approval and Notification The results will be submitted for approval by the competent institutional authorities and subsequently communicated to the candidates.

Acceptance Once notified of their selection, the postdoctoral researcher must submit a letter of acceptance and agreement expressing their acceptance of the conditions established for their appointment to the program.
6. Appointment conditions
| DURATION | Twenty-four (24) months. |
| RENEWAL | Up to twelve (12) additional months, subject to a favorable performance evaluation and the availability of institutional or external funding. |
| COMMITMENT | Full-time. |
| MODALITY | On-site. |
| START OF ACTIVITIES | Once notified of their selection, national postdoctoral researchers must join Universidad UTE in person from the beginning of their activities. For selected international postdoctoral researchers, a maximum period of thirty (30) days will be available to begin program activities. During this period, they may carry out activities remotely, when applicable, while arranging their relocation to Ecuador. |
| PHYSICAL INTEGRATION | The international postdoctoral researcher must physically join Universidad UTE in Ecuador within a maximum period of sixty (60) days from notification of selection, taking into account the applicable immigration and relocation procedures. |
| RESIDENCE IN ECUADOR | During the contractual period, the researcher must remain in Ecuador for at least sixty-five percent (65 %) of the period. The remaining thirty-five percent (35 %) may be spent outside the country for academic, scientific, or cooperation activities related to the program, subject to prior institutional authorization. |
7. Postdoctoral researcher compensation
Monthly compensation will range from USD 1,800 to USD 2,500. The corresponding level will be determined by the Selection Committee based on the researcher’s experience, academic and scientific track record, and the characteristics of the proposed research.
8. Document correction
What happens if I need to correct or complete documentation?
Once the application period has ended, the submitted documentation will be reviewed to verify compliance with the requirements established in the call. If omissions, inconsistencies, or correctable formal errors are identified, the applicant will receive a notification at the email address registered during the application process, indicating the documentation or information that must be completed or corrected.
Correction period: three (3) business days.
The applicant will have three (3) business days from receipt of the notification to submit the corrected documentation.

Once this period has ended, the corresponding verification will be conducted and each applicant’s eligibility status will be determined in order to proceed to the next stage of the process.
